As the season continues to change, it’s time to swap out your summer clothes and get rid of unwanted items in your closet! Many people attempt to organize their closets once or twice a year, but it’s easier if you keep things organized year-round. That’s why the team at Gainesville Mini Maid has compiled a few easy tips for you to follow to keep your closet from causing you stress all year long.

Ditch The Unwanted

Organizing your closet may seem overwhelming — but it doesn’t have to be! An easy way to start the process is by decluttering in small sections. Begin by separating your summer clothes from your winter apparel. This allows you to see the items that will need to be organized versus what you can store away for next spring. Now that you have separated your clothes based on the season, it’s time to downsize!

Have you ever looked into your closet and felt like you had nothing to wear? For many people, it may seem like you need more clothes, but maybe what you really need is to more easily locate the items you love most. As you begin to downsize, consider getting rid of items that you never wear, or apparel that is worn out, too big, or too small. By discarding what you don’t need, you can more easily access the pieces you love!

Organize

Now that you have downsized your wardrobe, it’s time to reorganize your closet!

  • Fold It Away – Winter clothing can be a bit bulky. Save hangers and drawer space by folding bulky jeans and sweaters on shelves. Utilizing shelf space allows your closet to stay organized and makes items easy to find.
  • Sections – Divide your clothes into specific sections. Categorizing your pieces by type (or even color) will make your closet appear more orderly. This also helps when you are looking for a specific item.
  • Hang It Up – It may be easier to throw your coats, jackets, vests, and sweaters on the closet floor or over the door, but that’s a leading cause of clutter! Take the time to hang items up for the sake of order.
