Are you thinking of putting your home on the market? Home sales are definitely hot right now, and it just might be the right time.

Of course, there is some work that needs to be done to get your home “show ready” for potential buyers. One of the most important things is staging your home.

Before you get ready to stick a for sale sign in the yard, do a few of these things to set yourself up for success.

Depersonalize

You want prospective buyers to picture themselves living in your home. Take the time to put away anything personal. Photographs, mail, and personal paperwork should be out of sight or stored away so that buyers can imagine their photos hanging in your home.

Declutter

Do you have a lot of clutter around your home? Things you’ve accumulated through the years? Then it’s time to go through it all and decide if you’re going to keep it, recycle it, or throw it away. If there are things you are not going to need immediately, box them up and put them in storage. You want to work to make your home seem as spacious as possible.

Keep It Clean

What’s one of the first things you notice when you walk into a home or business? How clean it is? Yes, that is probably one of the first things you see and it will be the same for potential buyers. Make sure your home is meticulous.

If you’ll be leaving your home in the morning, do a quick walk-through and clean up any areas that need attention. Additionally, Mini Maid can come weekly and clean your home so that you only have to spot clean before a showing. Additionally, we offer a mini cleaning of just your high traffic areas if needed!

Do Some Repairs

If you have some minor repairs that need attention, try to take care of them before putting your home on the market. This may mean doing some touch-up painting, fixing scratches in the floor, or replacing broken light fixtures. Pay special attention to the things that buyers will be looking at.

Make It Neutral

Do what you can to make your home a neutral space that will appeal to a wide variety of buyers. If you have accent walls that are painted in your favorite color, you should consider painting it a neutral color. Additionally, neutral throw pillows and blankets can help make your living room feel more welcoming to buyers.

Create a Great First Impression

Buyers will be entering your home through one door – probably your front door – so make a great first impression here. Set up a table in your entryway that is inviting and gives your house a welcoming vibe.

Make It Smell Fantastic

You may not notice how your home smells because you’re there every day. But newcomers will notice especially if you have pets, smoke or cook strong smelling foods in your home. Work to make sure your home smells fantastic so that the only comments being made are, “This home smells so fresh!”

Bring in Some Plants or Flowers

Add a few fresh plants or flowers to your home. Plants and flowers have been shown to make buyers feel welcome.

Open the Shades/Curtains

You want to let in as much light as possible so make sure your shades and curtains are open. Potential buyers will be looking to ensure that your home is not dark and how much natural light it receives throughout the day.

Spring is a great time to put your home on the market, and when you use these tips, you will be attracting buyers in no time and, hopefully, closing before you know it.
